2nd International Workshop on Energy Market Engineering

Phoenix, Arizona, United States

The energy landscape is undergoing several fundamental changes. Decentralized and intermittent generation from renewable energy carriers is replacing the controllable fossil fuel energy sources. Furthermore, micro-grids advocate a semi-distributed infrastructure as opposed to the conventional centralized energy systems. Finally, increasing the number of electric vehicles, and the replacement of passive consumers with active prosumers requires new energy trading platforms. These trends create major challenges to electricity markets. Introducing new ways of providing flexibility, emergence of new concepts such as vehicle to the grid, redefining energy/power unit commitments, and creating local electricity markets. These are some examples of how new market designs can accommodate these changes efficiently.

The workshop is collocated with the 10th International Conference on Future Energy Systems (ACM e-Energy). ACM eEnergy is the premier forum for research at the intersection of computing and communication technologies with energy systems. It has established a strong track record for high-quality research in the application of computing and networked systems to make legacy systems more energy-efficient and in the design, analysis, and development of innovative energy systems. The Tenth International Conference on Future Energy Systems (ACM e-Energy) will be held in Phoenix, Arizona from the 25th to the 28th of June 2019.

The workshop invites original papers of up to 6 pages that were not previously published and are not currently under review for publication elsewhere. We welcome submissions describing conceptual advances, as well as advances in market design, implementation and experimentation. Topics include, but are not limited to:

• Evolution and responsibilities of ISOs
• Grid fee organization of and investment remuneration
• Modelling the prosumer energy profiles and their market participation
• Modelling and simulation of energy markets
• Integrating renewable energy in the electricity market
• The role of energy storage in the electricity market
• Market design
• Auction design and exchange mechanisms incl. P2P mechanisms
• Blockchain in energy markets

• Electricity market operation
• Local electricity markets
• Resilience of local energy markets
• Integrating renewable energy in the electricity market
• Trading flexibility in the market
• Smart electricity markets
• Large scale experiments on market operations
• Sector coupling
• Dynamic pricing and contract design for demand response services
• Agent-based simulations

Please submit your manuscript via the HotCRP submission portal. Manuscripts will be published in the ACM proceedings and must adhere to the ACM format. Submission implies the willingness of at least one author to register and present the paper at the workshop. The organizers reserve the right to exclude a paper from publication if it is not presented. For more information please visit the workshop website.
