Topic

Within the project a tripartite examination and optimisation program of waste fermentation biogas plants is carried out. The work packages include analytic characterisation of substrate and digestate, the evaluation of the process stability as well as comprehensive biogas analysis to gain information about trace gas components. Finally the study will provide information about correlations between the quality of the substrates and of the biogas with regard to the plant management. Recommendations for an improved process-control and –adjustment will be given.

Aims

The project aims to optimise biogas plant operation and to significant improve biogas quality. In addition the project intends to overcome the reservations about the quality of the biogas produced in organic waste fermentation plants. The project will establish basics for the provision of high-quality biogas with high a security of supply. Due to this it will contribute to the growing significance of renewable energies.

Measures

Main tasks of Fraunhofer UMSICHT within the joint project are the biogas analysis and the development of process monitoring and optimisation measures. Due to the integrative approach of the project Fraunhofer UMSICHT will accompany also the liquid phase analysis. Equally, the gas phase analysis and the development of process monitoring measures are carried out in close cooperation with the DBFZ.

Focus

The DBFZ focuses on the analysis of the biogas substrates and the digestate. Finally all three parts of the research are necessary to evaluate and optimise the process of organic waste fermentation. Hence the results of the individual sub-projects are combined and evaluated by Fraunhofer UMSICHT and the DBFZ mutually.
