Final report project 03KB134 Altholz Quo Vadis only available in German.

Topic

In recent years, the use of biomass in Germany has become a key player in the concert of regenerative energies in the field of energy generation. However, current requirements of the EEG raise the question as to which bioenergy plants will have a future. The consequences of this decommissioning have a material, technical, social and energy economic dimension. Individual business and macroeconomic concerns are affected. The project focuses on waste wood plants that, unlike biogas, have not yet been the subject of research.

Aim

The aim of the project is to examine the possibilities for the ongoing operation of waste wood plants in Germany by development of different financing options systems and to secure a continued operation post-EEG by technical and economic measures, derived from practical examples.

Measures

IZES

  • Identification of future development of waste-wood and energy markets in Germany and selected EU-countries including legal aspects
  • Assessment of feasibility of waste wood plants and options for EU-conform funding mechanism, based on identified cost structures and technical optimisation options (see partner STEAG) of specific plants
  • Upscale of findings for all waste-wood plants in Germany and identification of national effects on climate protection and the energy economy

STEAG

  • Analysis of cost structure of waste-wood fired biomass plants in Germany
  • Identification of technical optimisation measures for STEAG NE waste-wood plants

Focus

IZES

  • Waste wood market (GER & EU), energy market, plant economy, GHG-effects, funding options, national effects on markets, project management

STEAG

  • Operational costs, technical optimisation
