Topic

The aim of this project is to combine the production of biogas with the combustion process for fiber-containing food waste (spent grains). By this method, the efficiency of energy use has to be increased by reducing the water content with a mechanical process. Spent grains consist of husks and protein agglomerates in combination with polyphenols. These protein agglomerates are pasty and become flexible under pressure. The separation of the biodegradable substances together with most of the water has to be made by pressing. For the thermal utilization, it is examined whether the use of wood fuels alone or a combination with the pressed spent grains is more efficient.
