Topic

The focus of the project is the stronger use of biomass and biogenic residues. Despite the fact that biomass is climate-friendly the utilization of this fuel correlate with high emissions. This contrast is particularly pronounced in the use of biomass residues and waste materials such as agricultural fuels or residual wood (for example residues from wood processing industry). On the one hand, high CO2 savings can be realized, but on the other hand, high emissions like nitrogen oxides occur.
To increase the use of biomass and biogenic fuels new technologies are needed. Therefore we development of a new combustion plant with integrated fuel staging. The combustion plant is able to use biomass with high nitrogen content, like residues from carpentries and wood processing companies, due to the innovative technic. An additional reduction zone ensures the degradation of NOx and increases fuel flexibility at the same time.

Aims

The aim of this project is the development and the test of a new combustion plant, which reduces NOx emissions more than 50 %, comparing with the state of the art. A further advantage of this construction is the increase of fuel flexibility. This innovation ensures also low emissions and high efficiency during part load applications.
