Within the framework of this research project, a new boiler technology (GVAGR system) is to be developed and permanently tested under practical operating conditions. The GVAGR system is a technology for automatically charged biomass boilers based on multi-stage combustion with integrated exhaust gas recirculation. In the GVAGR system, the solid biogenic fuels will first be gasified in a gasification chamber, whereby the gasification will not take place with oxygen-rich ambient air as in conventional biomass boilers, but with an innovative exhaust gas recirculation system with oxygen-poor exhaust gas. Gasification with low-oxygen exhaust gas has the advantage that the temperatures in the glowing bed area are significantly lower than in conventional boilers and the formation of many pollutants (e.g. NOx, dioxins and furans), which can be formed at high temperatures and concentrations of oxygen in the gasification zone, is avoided.
