Topic

Increasing efficiency in the fermentation of wet grassland landscaping materials in a biogas dry fermentation plant. Shredding the material on different land using adjusted machines and thereby considering aspects of nature conservation. Developing methods for the conservation of landscaping materials during winter time, adjustment of harvesting procedures to reduce the use of fossil fuels. Preparation of a CO2 balance for harvesting procedures. Increasing efficiency by adjusting procedures in the biogas plant.

Aims

  • Efficiency enhancement for the exclusive use of grass silage in a biogas dry fermentation plant
  • Testing different mowing techniques for quality enhancement and to improve the grass conservation
  • Testing different mowing techniques taking account of regulations on nature conservation

Measures

  • Harvesting: BUND farm Wendbüdel
  • Compatibility with the objectives of nature conservation: contract for work
  • Biogas plant: BUND – Institut für ökologisches Ressourcenmanagement
  • Evaluation and dissemination of results: BUND – Institut für ökologisches Ressourcenmanagement

Focus

  • Increasing the biogas yield of substrates from wet grassland
  • Increasing the biodiversity (vegetation) in conservation areas through suitable management and maintenance measures
