The share of biofuels has to be increased significantly in Germany and in the EU. The project analyzes and evaluates the effects of the political and economic framework on developments regarding the production and use of biofuels.

Aims

• Putting the legal framework in the context of the practical needs of the biofuels market
• Assessing the market taking account of the aims expressed by the legislature 
• Setting up a comprehensive database for national and international biofuel plants 
• Assessment of economic and environmental aspects of certain biofuel options

Measures

On the one hand, biofuel options were classified and the framework of the biofuel sector has been exemplified. Apart from analyzing the national biofuel production and consumption, also the international developments in the biofuels sector have been considered. Further, innovative raw materials and technologies along the biofuels supply chain are recorded and costs as well as the cost effectiveness have been analyzed. Beyond that, the greenhouse gas reduction potential has been balanced. In parallel, expert workshops about recent doubt queries (e.g. technical progress, iLUC) have been held.
