Condensable tar compounds cause high maintenance costs and long periods of inactivity for the wood gasification facility. Furthermore control measurements at gasification plants show that the amount of benzene within the emissions is far above the allowed limit of the German “TA Luft”. The municipal utility company Rosenheim GmbH & Co. KG wants to proof that the amount of benzene can already be reduced within the gasification process due to certain operating parameters. In the context of this project a pyrolysis test station will be established in order to simulate different process conditions. Furthermore a simplified measuring system for benzene will be validated.
This project will clarify if a certain process control of wood gasification can create a product gas with a low benzene content, because after a CHP utilization in a gas engine the exhaust gases has to satisfy the emissions regulations set by the German government. The aim of the project is to gain a broad basis of measurement data which further allows to optimize wood gasification plants meeting the acceptance standards from the Federal Immission Control Act.
First step of the project is a broad literature research about the state of the art knowledge of slow pyrolysis, especially with the focus on benzene formation dependent on operation parameters. Parallel to this a pyrolysis test station will be build with the aim to test and analyze the influence factors of pyrolysis on formation of tar compounds incl. benzene. The validation of a qualified measuring system is also part of the funding program. The measurement results will be published.
