The project concerns the utilisation of biomasses with poor combustion properties and fluctuating properties. The aim of the project, which is to be achieved in conjunction with the project partner, is to develop a plant for combining the process steps of torrefaction and pelletising and to implement the plant on an industrial scale. The starting materials and pellets are characterised using laboratory analyses and, together with the process parameters, serve as a basis of evaluation.
The aim of the project is to compare different processes for manufacturing torrefied biomass pellets, including an examination of the pre and post torrefaction of difficult biomasses that are less well suited for generating heat. The processes are to be compared and assessed by means of materials and energy balances. The test data determined in the laboratory and test plants is to serve as a basis for implementing the project on an industrial scale and for developing a pilot plant.
