The joined research project should contribute significantly to the procedural optimization of biogas production from different biogenic media and waste as well. For that purpose a mobile biogas testing plant will be developed, which could be positioned temporarily in close neighbourhood of biogas plants under construction or already in operation. The mobile testing plant can preferably be used to optimize decentralised small and medium sized biogas plants, which convert also agro-industrial biogenic waste and/or biomass from landscape conservation.


Main goals of the project consist in optimizing biogas production from different biogenic media and notably increasing the efficiency and operation safety of biogas plants by small scale process simulation and modelling. The results support the increase of renewable energies fraction of electricity supply and contribute to the environmentally friendly energy production and recycling of waste materials. The joined research project should provide not only strategies for a substantial energy yield but also for the reduction of CO2 emissions, the area decrease of required agriculturally productive land and therefore for the sustainable support of actual climate policy targets of the German Federal Government.

Within the VESBA joint research project Cordes+Winterberg consultants are responsible for the experimental set-up of the full scale biogas plant investigation as well as for bioprocess-analyses and –optimization. Results from the mobile VESBA reactor system (equipped with an innovative KSI Meinsberg in –situ hydrogen-sensor) will be used for the optimization of operation safety and process efficiency of full scale biogas plants. Project results will be summarized as instructions for plant operators.
