Topic

Currently, no marketing opportunities exist for the carbon rich residues from biomass gasification units which are thus commonly cost-intensively disposed. Commercialization options for gasification char shall enable a more flexible gasification plant operation. At the same time, gasification char may be used for carbon sequestration and thus provide an oppurtunity to reduce green house gas levels in the atmosphere.

Aims

To enable sustainable utilization and commercialization options for gasification char, product standards have to be developed and introduced to define the quality requirements and threshold values concerning critical components. Analysis methods will be validated to enable standardized environmental analysis. Within the project, a defined fuel for micro-CHP applications will be developed and the successful operation of micro-CHP units <5 kWel with these fuels shall be demonstrated.
