Topic

There is a need for heat and electric power in the medium-sized wood processing industry and craft companies. The need for heat is already covered by the use of biomass residues and waste materials generated there. Due to the year-round production, a much higher fuel supply is often available and must therefore be removed in a costly, non-ecological and uneconomical manner. This overcapacity will be used, in the present project, to generate electric power by implementing thermoelectric generators (TEG) in a biomass boiler so that a contribution to the electric power demand of the company is supplied.

Aim

In order to cover the heat and electric power needs of wood processing companies, a biomass boiler (1. BImSchV) will be enhanced, which also provides electric power and goes beyond the production of heat. For this purpose, thermoelectric generators are used and a demonstration boiler is developed, constructed and measured.

Measures

University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf

  • Numerical analysis of a current boiler and validation with measurement results
  • Development of the power generation system by using synergy effects, such as reduction of pollutant emissions
  • Extension of the operating time by integrating an adsorption/absorption chiller

Endress Holzfeuerungsanlagen GmbH

  • Integration of the thermoelectric generators in an existing biomass boiler concept
  • Design and construction of the demonstration boiler

Focus

University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf

  • Modelling and simulation
  • Development of the power generation system

Endress Holzfeuerungsanlagen GmbH

  • Design of the demonstrator
  • Construction of the demonstrator
