Key messages:
- On the basis of the biofuel catalog, caking and deposits from biomass power plants can be classified, as well as combustion chamber and boiler profiles can be drawn up, to show the relationship between caking and the structure of the combustion chamber as well as the relationship between deposits on heat exchanger surfaces and the structure of the boiler.
- Through sintering tests on a laboratory scale, as well as on a pilot plant scale, chemical-mineralogical reactions can be summed up during the thermal treatment of biofuels and biofuel mixtures, which lead to the formation of caking and films.
- The technical application of the biofuel catalog is to be used in the future as a generally valid instrument to predict the effect of various biofuels on the formation of caking in the combustion chamber and deposits in the convective boiler area.
- An expansion of the biofuel catalog to include the properties of residues from biomass power plants, such as rustscum, is planned.
Topic
The theme of the project is to increase the energy efficiency of biomass power plants by the technical application of a biofuel catalogue (BBC) developed by the applicants. The biomass catalogue should to be used as a general instrument to predict the effect of different biofuels on the formation of slags in the combustion chamber and deposits in the convective boiler area. It also provides the basis for fuel-based and process-oriented optimization options for BHP plants.
Aims
The scientific and technical work objectives are as follows:
- Validation of the procedure for the preparation of the BBC and the transferability of the technical application of the BBC to BMHP plants, which are equipped with different process technologies
- Simulation of the predicted chemical-mineralogical reactions for the formation of slags and deposits in the laboratory and technical scale for the combustion of waste wood and other selected biogenic residues and waste materials
- Development of optimization possibilities for BMHP plants
- Development of measures for an increased use of technically difficult biofuels
