Topic

For the cooling of storage rooms, the mash heating and the domestic hot water preparation are predominantly fossil energy sources as well as external electricity. For this purpose used plants for heat and cold generation are substituted by a biomass plant for the gasification of whole bales in combination with an absorption refrigeration system. Biomass from the winery (such as vine cuts) could be used as fuel. By using this plant concept, the winery reduces its emissions and increases energy self-sufficiency.

Aim

Determination of suitable fuel mixes from pomace, vine cuts and regional straw. Determination of an energy-efficient stabilization and storage concept for pomace. Further development of a small-scale biomass plant for the gasification of variable fuel mixtures of pomace, vine cuts and straw. Development of a modularly expandable hybrid plant concept (process heat, cooling, possibly electricity) for small and medium-sized wineries for the energetic use of the viniculture biomasses.

Measures

W. Bälz & Sohn GmbH & Co

  • Energy data analysis of wineries
  • Development of two hybrid plant concepts for heating and cooling (variant 1) and for heat, electricity and cooling (variant 2)
  • Cross-project project management

TH Köln

  • Companying emission measurements in the context of the scientific test series for the small-scale biomass plant for the gasification of whole bales
  • Test data evaluation with regard to exhaust aftertreatment measures

FTF

  • Material flow study of biomass residues in the winegrowing industry
  • Analysis of technical, economic, organizational and legal impediments to the implementation of a plant concept for the energetic use of viniculture biomasses
  • Development of a preparation concept for the pomace
  • Economic evaluation of the developed hybrid system concepts and development of different business and financing models for the market launch
  • Further technical development and optimization of the small-scale biomass plant for the gasification of whole bales on the basis of scientific test serie
