Key messages:
In an electricity system with increasing proportions of volatile energy sources, bioenergy plants can make an important contribution to supply security and grid stability through demand-oriented electricity production. Technically, many plants are already able to produce electricity flexibly. Flexsignal investigates possibilities to promote flexible operating modes, which are economically and ecologically advantageous.
The aim of the project is the development and validation of concepts that stimulate a demand-oriented (flexible) electricity production through bioenergy plants. These concepts should be made accessible to various stakeholders (politicians, plant operators, other market participants) in order to increase the share of flexibly produced electricity in the medium term.
UFZ
Coordination of the overall project (WP 0).
Identification and testing of existing flexibility concepts and, building on this, identification of concepts that directly encourage plant operators to generate flexible electricity and at the same time only present minor obstacles to their implementation (WP 2).
DBFZ
Modelling of the operating modes of individual bioenergy plants as a function of the concepts developed in WP 2 as well as their economic, technological and ecological evaluation (WP 3).
Derivation of recommendations for action from the results of APs 1-4 for actors from practice and political decision-makers (WP 5).
University Duisburg-Essen
Research of the relevant markets with regard to the current use of the flexibility of bioenergy plants and assessment of future developments on these markets (WP 1).
Model-based depiction of the concepts developed in WP 2 to encourage flexible operation of bioenergy plants in the system model and analysis of the interactions with other actors in the German power system (WP 4).
