Final report only available in German.
Biomass combustion systems are monitored in compliance with the statutory requirements of 1st BImSchV (German Air Pollution Control Act). The monitoring is being carried out periodically on random basis by the chimney sweep. Since now, the operating quality is not monitored, although the operators of biomass combustion systems have a major influence to the fuel and combustion technology.
Based on these considerations, this research project is about the development and testing of a combination system for the early detection of operating errors and constant observation of combustion processes due to the use of state-of-the-art sensor technologies. This combination system will be developed for biomass combustion systems and tested under practice conditions. The use of that combination system will ensure an energetic and efficient operation of biomass driven combustion systems as well as a reduction of hazardous pollutants in residential areas. Furthermore, the application of that combination system will contribute to the climate protection by avoiding greenhouse gases.
IBP
The monitoring concept for biomass combustion system was found by Fraunhofer IBP and is patented. The combination system has been developed, setup and tested at the laboratories of Fraunhofer IBP. Furthermore, algorithms for the optimization and automatic defect recognition during the combustion of biomass by the use of modern sensors as well as combustion calculations are developed and tested.
HDG
HDG Bavaria GmbH provides the pilot combustion system for the implementation of the combination system. HDG Bavaria GmbH will support Fraunhofer IBP by the development of a suitable software structure and appropriate algorithms for the monitoring of combustion systems.
LAMTEC
LAMTEC will support that research project with the provision of corresponding sensors and know-how. In addition, Lamtec gives support for the implementation as well as optimization of the applied sensor technology for the use of their sensors in the combination system.
