Topic

In many places municipal material and energy flows are so far only used insufficiently, although the potential use is well known by the municipalities. The project KomInteg wants to examine the reasons for this and in how far the municipality - among others as responsible decision maker for the land utilization and urban land use planning - can influence the optimal use of the existing biomass potential.

Aims

The goal of the project aims to strengthen the link between actors on national and communal level - with special respect to communal interests - by working out compatible recommendations in terms of concrete possibilities for implementation.

Measures

Wuppertal Institute

  • Analysis of specific impacts of the integration of biomass technologies in different communal base cases in the context of national climate goals
  • Preparation of suitable recommendations concerning the energetic use of biomass as well as the optimisation of already implemented biomass systems

Fraunhofer UMSICHT & IZES

  • Analysis of the local circumstances in Germany and classified into "typical" municipal cluster
  • Development of cluster-specific material-flow models of all relevant biomass as well as the assessment of local options for action with respect to various biomass technologies
  • Investigation of possibilities of biomass, especially in the heat market and presentation of possible municipal planning- and financial instruments
  • Preparation of action opportunities for energetic use of biomass as well as for the optimization of the already implemented biomass systems

Focus

Wuppertal Institute

  • Energy and climate policy framework
  • Scenario analysis

Fraunhofer UMSICHT

  • Technology set of bioenergy technologies

IZES

  • Municipality clusters
  • Heat market
  • Planning, financing and realisation of bioenergy projects
