Topic & Goals

The aim of the project is the development of an innovative two-stage process for the mono-digestion of chicken manure. The challenge of fine sand removal will be solved within the first stage of the process. Toxic ammonia concentrations will be avoided by shifting the balance between ammonia-ammonium in the direction of ammonium through the pH reduction by means of CO2 control within the second stage. The lab-scale tests are a pre-requisite for the implementation in pilot-scale and concept development for a demonstration plant. The upscaling of the process will be carried-out considering economic and ecological aspects.

Measures

DBFZ

  • Basic analyses/ investigations for substrate conditioning
  • Method development in lab-scale
  • Realization and operation of both process stages
  • Optimization of process parameters
  • Analysis of the influence on microbial composition
  • Digestate characterisation from both process stages in order to optimize physical and chemical parameters
  • Asment of the economic and environmental aspects by means of mass balance

Gicon

  • Substrate characterisation and conditioning for application at percolation system
  • Evaluation for the necessity of development of a system for ammonia separation
  • Transfer to and application in pilot-scale
  • Concept develpoment for demonstration-scale
  • Assessment of the economic and environmental aspects by means of mass balances

AEV Energy

  • Method development for fine sand separation
  • Application of fine sand separation within pilot-scale
  • Concept development of fine sand separation in demonstration-scale
  • Assessment of the economic and environmental aspects by means of mass balances
