Topic

In this study, for the first time, options and concepts will be examined which enable the area-wide replacement of oil heatings without putting additional strains (cost, work efforts) on the customers. Finally, irrespective of possible political motivated avoidance of newly installed oil heatings, the promise of the bioenergy sector will be kept sustainably in the way that for each oil heating that needs to be closed down or replaced a functioning and for the user acceptable solution without oil is available.

Aims

The aim of the overall project is to identify and demonstrate for preferably all use cases of oil heating systems (single family house, two family houses, small and medium sized multi-family houses, industrial and commercial heating) an alternative primarily based on biomass, which overcomes the existing obstacles so that new installations of oil heatings will soon lose their justification. Furthermore, it is also important to identify the political needs for actions that, from a scientific point of view, can accelerate effectively the transition from oil-fired to biomass solutions.

Measures

  • WP 1: Analysis of obstacles and drivers as well as current market integration concepts
In WP 1 an almost complete list of obstacles in connection with the replacement of oil heatings by renewable options will be created and, furthermore, a collections of current solution approaches and their prioritization will be developed.
  • WP 2: Operationalization of technical solutions
The aim of the work package is to have developed technically feasible solutions for the obstacles identified in WP 1 and to have coordinated them with manufacturers and suppliers and to have prepared promising information options.
  • WP 3: Derivation of political needs for action
In addition to the technical, organizational and information obstacles, there are also those resulting from the general or specific legal framework which cannot be resolved by the project participants. These obstacles are to be further differentiated in WP 3, allocated to specific groups of actors and possible solution options are to be discussed and described.
  • WP 4: Testing in practice
In WP 4, the IT implementation of the solution approach takes place with a subsequent test phase (real laboratory).
  • WP 5: Presentation of results and derivation of recommendations for action for area-wide implementation
In WP 5 results from the workshops and the practical implementation will be prepared and disseminated (overviews with options for action, statement paper, English-language open access publication, German-language specialist publication).
