Topic

The project examines the potential contribution of wood-burning stoves for a stable grid operation as part of a decentral Demand-Side-Management.

Aim

This project aims to identify the current and future potential of wood-burning stoves to avoid enormous peaks in power and gas demand. Therefor different supply concepts combining wood-burning stoves with heat pumps and gas boilers will be investigated for up to five building types. Evaluations will be carried out for the current state of the art and interpolated for 2030 and 2050. The opportunities for mobilization of the users will also be taken into consideration.

Measures

DBFZ

  • Analysis of residential buildings and heating concepts - Analysis of the current state of wood-burning stoves in Germany
  • Definition of the most relevant future heating concepts using wood-burning stoves
  • Estimation of technical improvements till 2030 and 2050
  • Possibilities and limits by the mobilization of end users
  • Derivation of required market signals and incentives

ISFH

  • Modeling and simulation of buildings (including their heat supply systems) to determine the electricity and natural gas load of several heat supply concepts and operating strategies of wood-burning stoves

Focus

DBFZ

  • Project management and coordination
  • Development of a simulation model for wood-burning stoves in TRNSYS
  • Derivation of recommended actions
  • Exploitation

ISFH

  • Simulation of buildings and heat supply systems in TRNSYS
