The Leipziger KUBUS is run by the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ, which is certified according to EMAS III, a rigid eco-audit for public institutions. By building the Leipziger KUBUS in 2004 ecological aspects were taken into consideration, e. g. the foyer is heated by geothermal energy during winter, coated glass slats in front of the glass façade reduce the heat load in summer and the rooms` heat recovery is provided by exhaust air. For all events hosted in the Leipziger KUBUS is waste separation obligatory – also for extern organizers.
To determine the emissions associated with an event at KUBUS, a CO_² calculator is offered. The determined CO^₂ value is equivalent to an amount of money that can be paid to make the event climate-neutral. This amount varies depending upon compensation form and/or - project between 6 and 20 euro per ton of CO_².

With the train

The conference takes place in the excellent located Leipziger KUBUS. Participants reach the KUBUS from the main station within 15 min by public transport (Tram 3/3E, heading for “Taucha” or “Sommerfeld”, get off at stop “Torgauer / Permoserstraße”). Participants travelling by car reach the KUBUS from the motorway A14 within just a few minutes (exit “Leipzig-Ost”, heading “Stadtzentrum” and turning left into “Permoserstraße”). 

The organizers recommend to travel by public transportation. 

Please note, that Deutsche Bahn offers a special event ticket (Link) for passengers. By using the event ticket, passengers travel on long-distance trains powered by 100% renewable energy and therefore bring about a sustainable reduction in CO₂ emissions caused by travelling to the conference.

With NextBike

There is a nextbike station directly in front of the Leipzig Cube connected to the Leipzig station network of nextbike. More information.

As organizers we tried our best to keep CO₂ emissions connected to the conference as low as possible and chose an environmentally friendly venue, catering and promoted travelling by public transport. 

Participants can also contribute to a better climate footprint by e. g. compensating CO₂ emissions of their own journey. Special companies are for instance: Atmosfair >> or My Climate >>

Keeping the climate footprint of our conference in sight, we decided to offer only vegan/vegetarian food and no meat. Many of the dishes are made from regional and seasonal products – if possible also from organic cultivation. 

In order to avoid leftovers the catering company “Govinda” calculates the food as exactly as possible. In case not all of the food is consummated at the conference – for example because of short-term cancellations – 100% compostable cardboard containers are available to the guests in order to take away possible leftovers.
If larger quantities of food remain, they will be distributed at a non-profit association in Leipzig that the caterer is associated with.

Printed products like the conference reader are made from recycled paper and comply with the standards of the eco-label “Blauer Engel”.
