Topic

The project dealt with the development of techniques for emission reduction during biomass combustion in small heating systems in order to achieve a sustainable energetic use of wooden fuels and comply with given and intended emission limits. For the solution of this complex task combined processes were researched, which included dust precipitation and thermocatalytic conversion of a wide range of pollutants.

Aims

The intention of this project is to adapt appropriate principles of catalytic exhaust gas treatment used in power plants and combustion engines for the emission conditions and sizes of small biomass combustion systems.

Measures

  1. Literature search on the current scientific state of research and technology
  2. Metrological evaluation of basics via detailed exhaust gas analysis
  3. Feasibility study on the possibility to use the different catalytic systems based on the previous work packages
  4. Verification of theoretically established solutions through experimental investigation
  5. Integration and adaptation of system components in a pilot plant at a small-scale furnace
  6. Preparation of the second project phase and documentation of the first project phase

Focus

  • Further development of biomass combustion processes and systems
  • Catalytic emission reduction
  • Exhaust gas treatment processes
  • Technical Chemistry
