This project shows the pilot application of a pellet µCHP unit for home use based on the pellet combustion in combination with a free-piston stirling engine (1 kWel power). The clean pellet burner with low emissions and high system efficiency in compact size will be developed.


  • Reseach of clean pellet combustion for a stirling µCHP unit and the concept proof of a functional sample.
  • Emissions (CO, dust) meet the legal limitation requirements (BImSchV in 2015) for combustors in small and middle power range. 
  • Indirect heating and protection of engine heater head from particle deposition.
  • Investigation of life time potential and maintenance periods: concept proof of system functions and operation properties


  • Clean pellet burner with low emissions (CO, dust) 
  • Indirect heating and protection of engine heater head from particle deposition.
  • Combustion with low air ratio for higher combustion temperature and for higher efficiency of the system
