Topic

In a test environment, the high-quality energetic recovery of various biogenic residue combinations is to be realized with this demonstrator in order to confirm the functional principle.
In addition, alternative process conditions and process variants for a large number of possible raw materials and raw material combinations (raw material matrix) are to be developed in order to achieve great flexibility and stability of the process with regard to the raw materials used.
In order to combine the system components into a functional overall system, extensive research, coordination and optimization of the individual process steps as well as the overall process is necessary. In addition, there is experimental testing and the development of process variants for the various raw materials and raw material combinations. Both are the core of the research and development work in the project.

Aims

The aim of the project "Conversion of biogenic residues into product gas by pyrolysis, shift and microbial methanogenesis" (acronym: BiRG) is to test a demonstration system capable of permanent loads to check the application of microbial methanogenesis (the so-called methanogenesis) following a pyrolysis process and a water-gas shift reactor (WGS reactor).

Measures

New Power Pack GmbH

  • WP 1: Definition of requirements for the overall process (combination of pyrolysis, gas cleaning, WGS reactor, methanogenesis).
  • WP 2: Conception of the demonstration system
  • WP 3: Evaluation of sector coupling
  • WP 4: System integration / construction of the demonstrator in a test environment
  • WP 5: Testing demonstrator
  • WP 6: Project Management
  • WP 7: Supervision of the regulatory framework / transfer and synthesis of results

Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH

  • WP 2: Pretest on an existing WGS reactor of the diesel reforming chain, process analysis on the basis of the preliminary experiments, CFD simulation for the creation of a reactor concept
  • Design and construction of the multi-stage reactor to adapt to the raw gas, which is variable within limits, manufacture of the shift reactor
  • WP 4: Constructive adaptation of the WGS reactor design to the system environment
  • WP 5: Scientific support for the WGS reactor in system operation

Fraunhofer UMSICHT

  • WP 6: Energy balancing of the overall system
